About the field and the people behind it
About The Napkin Litigator
A place to explore the legal questions behind valuable relationships that no single document or traditional field of law can fully explain.
Napkin Litigation brings together the evidence, rights, and remedies involved when ownership, money, control, compensation, governance, or inherited value is disputed.
Why Napkin Litigation exists
The real relationship rarely lives in one place.
Someone may have contributed money, work, property, relationships, or expertise. A business may have grown, an asset may have appreciated, or a key person may have left or died. Only then does everyone need to prove what was agreed and who is entitled to the value.
The answer may require reading agreements alongside tax filings, financial records, deeds, messages, representations, and years of actual conduct. Those sources can conflict. The law that governs them may come from several disciplines.
Napkin Litigation is the field of law created by Andrew Lieb and the Lieb at Law team to examine that recurring problem as a connected economic dispute.
There is something valuable. More than one person claims rights to it. The answer cannot be found in one document or one traditional field of law.
The methodology
A framework for connecting the case.
Lieb at Law developed the Napkin Litigation Framework to reconstruct the economic relationship, test formal and functional rights, integrate the applicable law, and pursue a practical economic result. Its four phases are connected, and new evidence can change the analysis.
Protect & Audit
Preserve evidence, identify assets, trace money, and reconstruct what happened.
Test Governance
Compare documents with contributions, authority, financial benefits, and actual conduct.
Integrate Strategy
Connect relevant legal fields, evidence, remedies, and litigation tactics.
Recover & Stabilize
Work toward recovery, liquidity, control, separation, or another stable result.
Created, practiced, and taught by Lieb at Law
The attorneys behind the work.
Andrew Lieb founded Lieb at Law, P.C. He and the firm's litigation team developed Napkin Litigation from disputes involving businesses, ownership, real estate, investments, compensation, inherited assets, governance, and control.
The firm's attorneys write about these issues, teach continuing legal education, and apply the Framework in litigation. Their work crosses conventional practice area lines because the underlying economic relationship often does too.
The Napkin Litigator is the educational home for that work. Lieb at Law is the law firm that evaluates potential representation.
